Brian McKenna helps individuals and families gain skills for life so they can achieve a healthy level of functioning, renewed hope, and happiness in their lives. Utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), individuals improve their life situation and outlook by understanding how thoughts and emotional regulation influence behaviors. In addition, Brian uses solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), a goal-directed and strength-based approach that focuses on the present and future, to equip individuals with new coping strategies. His collaborative approach involves other essential relationships and resources to optimize outcomes, fostering a strong therapeutic alliance between himself and the individual. These two strategies are the most important factors to change and healing. Brian inspires and motivates people to become healthier, happier and more connected in their relationships, as seen in his Tedx Talk.
With over 25 years in the field, he possesses extensive knowledge and experience in helping adolescents, young adults, men, and women tap into their strengths, endure challenges, and achieve their life goals. Brian is a graduate of Valparaiso University (BSW) and the Jane Addams College of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago (MSW) and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor with an Adolescent Treatment Endorsement in the State of Illinois.
